Project Info
The objective for the pavilion project was to build an outdoor pavilion for a 600 square foot grass field filled with apple trees on Lick-Wilmerding’s campus. The idea for the pavilion was to create a shared user space that would not cover the whole lot. Working with my partner Max Peterson, we were inspired by the existing trees on the plot and did not want to remove many trees to build this pavilion. So we came up with having the pavilion space vertical, with minimal ground surface area. Two vertical angled I beams, help support two above ground platforms. The first platform, six feet off the ground, allows users to sit down and dangle their feet off the edge without risk of falling. The second platform, twelve feet off the ground, allows gives the users a protected outlook spot above the tops of the apple trees.
