Project Info
The brief for this project was to design a laundry soap bottle for a real life or fictional soap brand. The project would be executed through Fusion 360, with final renderings. I chose to design my bottle for the popular US laundry detergent brand Tide.
One issue that I came across when researching laundry detergent bottles, was that there are no laundry bottles that are small enough for one or two laundry loads. An issue I find myself in a lot is when I am traveling and want to wash my clothes, I have to buy a whole gallon size bottle of laundry soap. I only end up using at most a third of the soap in the bottle and have to throw away the rest, which is extremely wasteful. Inspired by the forms of personal stainless steel water bottles, I wanted to make a laundry soap canister, that holds 18 ounces of laundry soap for one to three laundry loads. The bottle is made out of polypropylene plastic, manufactured through blow molding techniques. The outside of the bottle features Tide’s classic brand colorings and logos.
Overall this project strengthened my computer ideation process and ability to create high quality, realistic computer generated renderings. It also gave me an understanding of how to design for a popular rapid production manufacturing technique.
